I'm super nervous about filling this space in exactly 3 weeks time!  The past few months have been a serious painting marathon!

Just purchased an amazing little crackerjack Olympus Pen Mini.  Here are some close up shots that I took with it.

The moment has finally arrived!  My show will be December 1st through December 7th at the Korean Education Center.   Please join for new paintings, friends, and vino.

New Paintings

Welcome to Sharon Lee Studio's introductory post!

"Use or Delight"is the name of a book about flowers I came across, and thought it was an appropriate phrase to encapsulate my paintings.  The goal was for the pieces to be whimsical, and still meaningful.

My work is inspired by traditional Korean folk art paintings, and the typological forms associated - mostly flowers.  Simultaneously studying the traditional painting techniques myself has really deepened my appreciation for the Korean aesthetic.

In the end, I want to make aesthetically pleasing artwork that will complement your home- whether on the walls or casually placed on a coffee table.

Keep in touch for the finalized date for my first show.  (Quite possibly the first week of December!)  They are so much better in person!

This one is really special because it was the first I made of the series, a sort of keystone to the work that follows.  I plan to make it into a wallpaper eventually!

The most contemporary of them all.  A bit of pop art influence featured here.

The largest piece I have made yet.  I was thinking of an overflowing spring bouquet as the concept.

The only painting with that Yves Klein Blue border.  I will likely make more of these at some point.

A diptych with neon colors that pop against gray blue backgrounds.

These are a few earlier pieces done on flat panels.  They look great casually propped up in a bookshelf as a nice surprise for guests perusing your digs.

And, the boxes!  These are paintings disguised as decorative boxes.  The reason why I thought of this is sometimes there is too much commitment involved in hanging a piece on your wall.  This way, the piece is always mobile, and interactive with all the other treasures in your place!

Here is an example of how they can be displayed.  The more accessories they are grouped with, the better!  Glossy coffee table books, candles, journals, trinkets.
I love the idea of painting as mobile accessory!  They have been so much fun to play with and move around from room to room in my house.
